21 For The Boy

Twenty-one little, or maybe not so little, things about The Boy.

1. He drives me crazy. But in a good way. I think.

2. He has a scar on his cheek from when he was born. His nails were so long and sharp that he scratched is face sometime during birth, or right after. We kept asking the nurses to trim his nails but they wouldn’t. I finally asked if they would put socks on his hands to keep him from scratching his face off. The nurses were not that helpful, now that I think about it. And I didn’t know what I was doing.

3. Since we’re on the subject of his birth. He had to stay in the hospital an extra day, because of jaundice. I thought going home without a baby was going to kill me. It didn’t, though.

4. He delights in torturing his sisters.

5. He adores his sisters

6. For the past week, or so, has been pull-up-free at night

7. Loves his dog

8. Thinks nothing of the messes he makes. But if Little Miss is making a mess the world has to come to a screeching halt while he cleans it up or at least brings it to my attention.

9. Loves any game involving a ball. Even if the game is a made up one.

10. Lost another tooth last week. At school. I have no idea how it all went down.

11. Loves oatmeal for breakfast.

12. When I tuck him on a night before school I’ll tell him that “tomorrow is a school day” and his response is to ask for a sandwich.

13. Everyday at school he has peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, applesauce and juice. And he never complains.

14. Loves to growl like a tiger. A common phrase at the dinner table, “no tigers at the table.” I never thought I would have to say that.

15. We (meaning David) once had to pick him up at the police station. He wandered out of the house when I was in the shower. We he didn’t think he was wandering, he was headed to the park. An off duty highway patrolman picked him up and took him to the station. I was having a frantic-out-of-body experience not knowing where he was. Calling 911 to report him missing was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. By the time I called he was already there. When he came home I was a mess and he looked at me like I was a little crazy. I wish I could say he hasn’t ever wandered off since.

16. He loves his parents dearly and requires at least one hug and kiss before boarding the bus to school.

17. Likes to sleep with the fan on. Even in winter.

18. Takes cold showers. At even a hint of warmth he’ll yell and complain until someone comes and turns up the cold. He doesn’t get that from me.

19. Likes to reenact scenes from movies. Like so

20. When getting ready for school it takes him approximately 15 minutes to get dressed. 20 minutes to eat. 5-6 minutes to put on shoes. Any other morning he does the whole thing in about 10 minutes flat.

21. Loves ice cream. Always has, and always will. Has been known to wake us up at six in the morning asking for it. Loves everything about it.

Twenty-one is a magical number. And while he does drive me quite crazy I couldn’t imagine my life without him!

That made me grin! He sounds like such a character! And similar in many ways to my Ben, who drives me crazy- like sooooooooooo slow to get ready for school, me scrabbling around in the gutter looking for a lost tooth, sister issues...the list goes on. Great post :)
