After we met and started getting to know each other it was easier and easier to be around each other. First off my roommate was interested in one of David’s best friends who also happened to be his next door neighbor. So we were seeing more and more of them. And secondly we really liked each other. He did finally ask me out on a real date for one Friday evening. Although we seemed to find ways of seeing each other almost every day.
The Wednesday before the Friday he came over and suggested we go and get ice cream. Since I do love ice cream and I did love excuses to not study I readily agreed.
He took me to the Malt Shop. He had worked there for a short time and his dad had come there (when it was called something else) when he was going to the same school many many moons before. I don’t remember what I ordered but judging from his love of malts I’m pretty sure David ordered one of those.
I do remember, though, not being able to finish my treat. I sometimes have that problem.
As David saw me slowing down and pushing the treat away his first thought was, “oh great another girl who hardly eats.”
But then, as he puts it, I saved it.
I asked him if he wanted to finish mine.
That’s when he knew I was a keeper.
