Football

This Fall we’re doing something we’ve never done before.

We signed The Boy up for football.

Believe me, I was shocked too.

It’s through the YMCA and the teams consist of kids from his same school.

The first practice they tried some throwing and catching. He didn’t catch a single one. But when each ball fell he rain to pick it up and take it back to the coach. Watching him run around with his team and lining up and not catching the football made me realize he couldn’t care less if he catches the ball. He was just thrilled to be doing something, running around, being a kid.

I suppose I needed that reminder.

Last night was the first big game.

Thinking about starting to call him “The D Man.”

D for defense. That’s our boy.

Let’s face it though. The entire game was just kids running around. Although he did have to spend some time on the sidelines.

Which really peeved him at first. Then he realized that he would get some play time. Then he was good to go.

After the game was over came my favorite part (no not because it was over, sheesh!) The coach told them all to line up and stick your arm out.

So he did.  Two arms are better than one, after all. And good sportsmanship is a must.

By the way. We won. Although I’m not sure if that’s something we keep track of.
