The Cutting Board

I've been busy this week. A busy worker bee.

Almost a year ago I bought this fabric to make curtains for the kids' room. I wasn't using a pattern to go by, I just bought a bunch.

Last week I decided I was finally going to do it. I was tired of looking at the ugly blankets hanging from the windows. We've lived in this house for four years, isn't it time they had curtains?

I went down into the dungeon to rescue the material that had been so carefully washed and folded and to my surprise I found a pattern for the very curtains I had been envisioning. Apparently I had this hankering to make these curtains much longer than I thought.

Last week I cut out the first curtain.

Then on Tuesday afternoon I whipped it together. Catching the bug I set to cut out the rest of the curtains and every afternoon since I've worked on my curtain project.

I was so pleased with how they turned out.

Doing these kinds of things makes me think of my grandmother, my Nana. My sister and I have this little thing when we start to get crafty or busy with our hands we say we're "channeling our inner-Nana." She was an amazing seamstress. One I'm not sure I could ever come close to matching. The entire time I was working on this little project (which was nothing to the doozies that she was constantly busy with) I thought a lot of her. I don't ever remember being taught to sew, because of her and my own mother (another fabulous seamstress in her own right), I guess it just must be in my blood.

I think, though, as simple as my little curtains were Nana would be so excited for me. She would love that I made them and love how they turned out. She was that kind of lady.

Great job. I made some similar for Evelyn's room. I just took them down though, in preparation for the boy room. I love the middle picture. Awesome. Don't you just love actions?

Good for you! I like to think of it as channeling my inner domestic goddess. Which is what your nanna was, I'm sure!
