As Green As We Get

I usually love St. Patrick's Day. For some reason, though, this year I just haven't been that into it. I'm usually anxiously awaiting my Corned Beef and Cabbage. Picking out my green outfit days in advance. But this year, not so much. It's not like I get too much encouragement from Mr. Man "I'm not Irish," is his usual response. I didn't make my kids a green breakfast (Miss Thing served everyone up Rice Krispies which was more fun to watch), we didn't wear green. Lame. I know. We did go to the park and have a picnic and then I convinced them to come home and have some ice cream. As an afterthought I remembered I had some ice cream cones, and what do you know they were green. So this is as green as we got.

The Boy knew right what to do. He dug right in. He usually digs right in to all things ice cream. Miss Thing was content to eat her ice cream and when she saw The Boy eating his cone, of all things! She was quick to point it out, maybe she was trying to get him in trouble. Wouldn't suprise me. When I showed her that she could eat hers she was a little more satisfied.As a compromise, or maybe to make me feel better for not fixing the usual Corned Beef and Cabbage, we had Reuben Sandwiches and French Fries. I'm not sure why I was feeling a wee bit guilty. It would be me making it, me cleaning up the big mess and then me eating all the leftovers. I'm just saving myself the extra work, and extra eating. So really I did myself a favor.Maybe this will be our new traditions. And maybe next year we'll wear green.
