Snow...Snow...Snow...

This morning we woke up to a winter wonderland. For some reason it doesn't feel like wintertime until we have had one good snow. Not the kind that falls and then melts or blows away. A good snow, a snow that sticks.

I grew up in California so it is funny to me that I should feel this way. Snow was something you had to drive for a couple of hours to really experience. Snow was foreign. Winter was something entirely different, to me anyway. Winter meant cold and fog, and sometimes rain. Cold there was different than the cold I live in now.

My first winter away from home I was a little excited for the snow. Living in Rexburg Idaho didn't disappoint in that department either. The newness wore off pretty quickly, though. It was too cold and too wet and would freeze and become too slippery. In a three week time period I fell on the ice three times! And we even had a Christmas break in between.

Every winter since then has been in the climate that produces snow. While it is still too cold and too wet and still freezes it has come to represent winter. The first full winter we lived in Kansas we bundled William up and took him out in it. He wasn't that fond of the idea...
When the kids realized that it had snowed they each took turns looking out the window. When it was about time for The Boy to go to school Miss Thing couldn't stand the thought of us going outside without her. They love to go outside and just walk around in the snow, even if it produces cold hands and feet. The next day they are ready to get the hats and coats on and try it out again. As if it is going to produce different results.

I really don't mind the snow, as long as I am inside and it stays outside...okay it can stop snowing now.

My kids are totally missing out. I want snow. I guess that is easy for me to say because I don't live in it, but I still feel like life would be better with a season of snow.

I like snow too, but only with a cup of hot chocolate in front or a warm fire...and watching out the window. Hey I just heard it is snowing in Las Vegas...now that is hillarious. Happy Holidays!
