Last night we had our annual pumpkin carving family time. We started about three years ago. David will cut the top off and then William's job is to clean out the pumpkin (usually with the help of dad). Last year Ruth was a little (okay a lot) turned off by it all. This year as soon as David got the top off William quite literaly dove in. It was so fun to watch, you could tell that he had done this before! Ruth didn't waste any time either. The two of them were having so much fun and would still be going right now if dad didn't step in and offer his services. I did post a slideshow on my sidebar that really captures the essence of our carving festivities but I also took a little video clip of the kids and their dad playing with the pumpkin.
I find it so interesting that these kids can make me cry one minute and laugh the next. I'm grateful that we are able to make these memories now and hopefully someday they will remember these times, instead of the ones where I get so upset at them for making messes, fighting, etc. etc. Over the weekend I attended a little mini-womans conference. The theme of the conference was "joy." I've been trying to take more time to find joy, in even the smallest things. Hopefully by doing this I can find more good in everything and the bad will still be there but maybe just maybe they won't seem so bad.

Great fun, great memories!
Lucky that you can carve pumpkins so early. Here is good ole Las Vegas carving pumpkins the night before is a bit tricky. After we carve them I have to put vasoline on all the cut edges and then wrap the whole pumpkin in saran wrap and then put in the fridge. If I don't I have dried out shriveled pumpkins the next day for Halloween. Looks like you had a great time and I can't wait till tomorrow night when we get to carve ours! Love to all!
