I crafted this Advent some time ago.
Each year I put it up. And each year I’m the one that turns each little pocket around. And each year I never make it to 25.
This year, though, the kids seem much more interested in numbers and interested in having a little something to do each day.
I’ve conveniently skipped over the part where the pockets are supposed to be filled with candy. Lets just say I know better. That thing would be torn down and emptied out before I could say “Jingle Bells.”
I came across this blog and adapted her Christmas countdown to work with my little advent. So each day the kids pull a little slip of paper out with something for them to do. I thought it would be a fun way to help them understand the spirit of the season. To help them think of others, besides themselves.
It’s a work in progress, the thinking of others thing, but its progress none-the-less.

My advent calendar isn't seeing much action unless of course children stop by then I enlist their help.
i inherited the advent calendar i had growing up. my brothers and i always knew to take just the one candy when it was our day. we did however, move the candy around so that the 'good ones' would be in our pocket on our day. the girls and i haven't made it to 25 yet either..mostly because we've been out of town the week or so before christmas for the last few years. someday, though, someday!
