What Strep Looks Like At Our House

Looks lovely doesn't it?

The Boy has been struggling the past few days. Friday it was a fever at school and a very clingy boy at home. Then Saturday he seemed to do a bit better. Sunday he seemed fine, although that evening I noticed his face was really red. Then when he got home from school yesterday he had a serious rash all over his face. After I put him to bed last night I had that mom feeling that I would be taking him to the doctor today. And the mom feeling was right. I checked out his stomach and arms and legs and his stomach and back also were really "rashy" although it looked different than what was on his face. So I called the doctor this morning and got him in.
See what I mean? Poor kid. I could tell last night that it was starting to bother him. This morning I noticed a similar rash on Little Miss, all over her stomach and back. But not much on her face. When the doctor came in to talk with us and check over The Boy I showed him the rash on Little Miss and so he looked at Miss Thing's stomach as well. She was the beginnings of the rash the other two had. He looked in The Boy's mouth and his throat was bright red. Miss Thing's was a little pinker than normal. So he wanted to do a quick strep test to see if that was a possibility.

I had The Boy practice opening his mouth for the nurse to swab. Miss Thing was there for moral support, as always. He did so good during the throat swabbing part. He kept his mouth open, even though he gagged a couple of times, and didn't throw a fit. I was so proud.

Hanging out in the exam room, wating. At least someone is having fun.

While we were waiting, the more I thought about it the more more I convinced myself that this was what the issue has been and that Little Miss had it too. The test came back positive. Just like I knew it would. So he felt sure that they all had that issue so he put them all on antibiotics. Oh the joys. I can send The Boy back to school on Thursday so it's going to be a fun couple of days at our house. My goal for the week now is to get through it.

The bright spot came at the pharmacy, oddly enough. The Pharmacy Manager had to go over each of the doses for each of them. Then all the sudden he said, "I need to double check something." When he came back he told me he wanted to make sure he had the names right. Seeing as they all have "traditional" names he thought he better make sure he had it right that they all three were kids. He thought their names were beautiful. It makes me happy when I hear that kind of stuff. I really like their names. Even if they do have strep.

Be positive

I love their names too. Sorry to hear your kiddo's are sick. mine are too, but that's the least of our worries. Glad it only ended up being strep. Monica took her son in on Friday for a rash and it turned out to be the beginnings of scarlet fever. YIKES! Take care and watch lots of movies!

My boys both had strep repeatedly during the winter, and then I got it, and my mum got it and my step-father got it. What a nightmare. I feel your pain :)

Good luck to you Mom, movies and tv, that is my saving grace with sickies. At least you only had to go to the Dr once, that is a huge blessing!

Well, now I know what strep looks like and it doesn't look fun! Any time I have to give my kids that pink antibiotic, nearly every article of clothing in my house gets stained in the medicine fight. I had no idea that strep causes a rash.
